Green Teams serve as school leaders in sustainability

All schools are encouraged to start up their very own green team! “Green Team” is a general term that applies to a collection of dedicated individuals who collaborate to raise awareness regarding environmental issues around a school community and take the initiative to promote sustainable programs. These teams might be called an eco-club, environmental club, or something else entirely. No matter what name they choose, they serve as the leaders for green school activities. One example of that leadership is the video that the Sheridan Elementary Green Team created for their school community. Their video “shows how Sheridan students, staff, and families can help our school and homes grow greener to keep our earth cleaner now and in the future.” This is just one example of how a green team can engage and educate their school community.

Now is the time for finding those students, staff, parents, and other community members that are passionate about the environment and finding ways to make a difference at their school. Already have that group started? They can find resources for green school activities in our Green Team Handbook and our Green Schools Recognition Program.
