Employees within some employee groups at LPS have access to limited educational assistance through the District. The full plan document can be found in HR Bulletin 13 (link to it). In additional guidelines and eligibility criteria for each bargaining group can be found on their respective Addendum to the Employee Handbook or bargaining agreement. Please note that LPS reimburses the cost of tuition only. For example, additional fees, costs of books, room and board, and other instructional materials will not be reimbursed.
Questions regarding the Educational Assistance Plan may be directed to the Director of Employee Relations, Benefits, and Personnel.
Prior to submitting for reimbursement, please ensure you have copies of the required documentation available, including:
- Full statement for semester being reimbursed, including itemized breakdown of charges for classes and any scholarships, grants or other financial aid that were applied
- Proof of payment
- Proof of completing the course with an acceptable grade for reimbursement purposes
- Class Enrollment FOrm signed by the HR Supervisor for the applicable employee group.
Per the IRS, employees may be reimbursed up to $5,250.00 per calendar year for educational assistance before the amount becomes taxable income. Any amount reimbursed over the $5,250.00 limit for the calendar year will be included on the employee’s next paycheck as taxable income.
