What is LPS Salary Advancement?

Some LPS professional development courses are approved to be offered for salary advancement credit. Salary advancement credits can be used towards Horizontal Advancement.

You may only use a total of 30 staff development (salary advancement) hours for horizontal advancement over the course of your career. Use of any salary advancement credits for horizontal advancement purposes is limited to ten years. You may refer to the Certified Agreement for more information.

Payments for LPS Courses for Salary Advancement Credit

If salary advancement credit is desired, payment must be received no later than the last scheduled day of the class. No retroactive credit will be approved. Once payment is received, no refunds will be issued.

Tuition for an LPS salary-advancement-approved course is $40 per credit hour. If a tuition payment or a required fee is necessary, payment can be made via check or online:

  1. Checks should be made out to Lincoln Public Schools. They can be sent to Lisa Ford Osterman, Box 55, 5905 O Street, Lincoln, NE 68510. A $20 service fee will be charged for each bad check returned to Lincoln Public Schools.
  2. Online payments can be made through this link.
    1. In the box where you enter your ‘Last/First Name’, enter your name AND the name of the course you are paying for.

Guidelines for LPS Courses for Salary Advancement Credit

  • Attendance
    • Regular attendance is expected. There may be extenuating circumstances that require an absence. Please work with your instructors in the event that you would need to miss a class session. You will be expected to complete any missed assignments.
  • Assignments
    • It is expected that participants complete all the assignments by the designated due dates.

How to View LPS Courses Offered for Salary Advancement Credit

  1. Log into the LPS Professional Learning Online Catalog
  2. On the homepage, under Course Search, click on Advanced Search
  3. On the left side of your screen, expand Credits by clicking on the triangle icon
  4. Checkmark the box next to Workshop (salary advancement)
  5. At the bottom of the screen, click on Apply Filters
  6. All upcoming courses that are open for registration and offered for Salary Advancement will be shown on your screen
    1. Please note that not all courses may apply to you (e.g. a nursing skills course may only be open to nurses).

Courses are added to the Professional Learning Online Catalog throughout the school year. New courses are usually added right before summer, 1st semester, and 2nd semester, so it is best to check periodically.

How to View Your LPS Professional Learning Transcript

1. Log into the LPS Professional Learning Online Catalog
2. Under My Courses on the main screen, click on My Transcript
3. Under Filter Credits, change the Credit Area type by choosing Workshop (salary advancement) from the drop-down menu
4. Click Update
5. All courses taken for that credit type will be listed below
6. If course credit has already been used for a Horizontal Advancement, the advancement type will be listed in the Grade column

What is Horizontal (Pay Grade) Advancement?

You may advance horizontally on the salary schedule by receiving a Master’s degree, a Doctoral degree, or by acquiring required hours for a specific column on the salary schedule. More information needed to apply for horizontal advancement can be found on the Horizontal Advancement webpage. You may also refer to the Certified Agreement or contact Human Resources at hr@lps.org for additional information.

Advancement for BA18, BA36, MA18 or MA36

You need a total of 18 graduate hours or a combination of 18 graduate hours/staff development (salary advancement) hours for each advancement. You may only use a total of 30 staff development (salary advancement) hours for horizontal advancement over the course of your career. Use of any salary advancement credits for horizontal advancement purposes is limited to ten years. Only graduate hours conferred after the Masters degree will apply to the MA+18, MA+36 and PhD/EdD lanes.
