We’re excited to offer the opportunity for summer weight training and conditioning.

For the safety of our students and staff, and to do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we are following a number of safety measures and protocols. These will be posted on the high school websites and the LPS website. Please note these could change depending on health directives put into place.

First, we have created training groups of no more than 25 students. These groups will remain the same for the entire summer as part of our safety protocols to limit contact and and allow physical distancing. Unfortunately we are not able to place every athlete with an on-site group because of high demand and limited spots.

However, alternative options will be made available. Schools will continue to offer Zoom workout sessions and the current online workouts will remain available. This will allow all athletes the opportunity to train in some way and access workouts designed by our sports performance coaches.

There are a number of screening protocols and procedures that will be required of athletes and staff.

Athletes are required to wear a mask as much as possible and must bring their own. This means they should wear a mask when they arrive, depart, and any other time when they are not intensely exerting themselves during lifting weights or performing conditioning drills. Athletes will not be allowed to participate without a mask.

If a student has any COVID-19 symptoms, or a member of their family has symptoms, they should not attend the workout session. Athletes’ temperatures will be taken prior to every workout and if it is under 100 degrees, they can participate in the training session. Next, they will be directed to wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds before entering the weight room and their assigned station. Hand washing will not occur for outdoor conditioning because no equipment will be used.

Other safety protocols will include the following:

  • Staff will also be required to wear masks.
  • Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, but they may not share their water bottles with others. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant will be available to use between sets and at the end of the workout session, athletes will wipe down equipment to disinfect their workout area.
  • Each group will then exit the training space completely before the next group arrives and is allowed to enter.

Parents, we ask that if you are dropping off your child, please wait until he or she passes the temperature screening and is allowed to work out. Also, please be available if we need to contact you for any reason while your child is attending a workout session.

If an athlete is not allowed to work out because they are exhibiting symptoms or have a temperature above 100, they will be required to have their mask on and be isolated from the group until they leave or can be picked up.

Parents will be given information about steps to take for the athlete in order to return to training sessions.

If an athlete does test positive for COVID-19, parents must contact their school’s athletic director immediately.

Thank you for your help with these important safety measures. Together, we can make sure our athletes enjoy a safe and productive workout environment this summer.

COVID-19 is a contagious virus and spreads through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.  Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19: Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea and/or vomiting, diarrhea.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID 19, athletes are screened for COVID 19 symptoms prior to training workout.  Your athlete is being excluded due to either having a fever over 100 degrees fahrenheit, reporting and/or displaying one or more of the previously listed COVID 19 symptoms or reporting they have been in close contact with an ill person or a positive COVID 19 person.

It is recommended that you contact your athlete’s healthcare provider for direction and to determine if a COVID 19 test is needed. In order for your athlete to return to training workouts a note from your healthcare provider stating your athlete has been cleared to return to training workouts or submit notice that they have received two negative COVID 19 tests in a row, at least 24 hours apart and no longer have any symptoms or a fever without the use of fever reducing medication.

Please be aware that siblings that live in the same household of an excluded athlete will also be excluded from workouts.

Should you have any questions regarding COVID 19, please call the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department at 402-441-8053.
