25th Annual Cans4Books Drive Results
The results are in for the 25th annual Cans4Books Recycling Drive. Thank you to all of the students, staff, friends and neighbors that participated!
We added up your school and public donations and they totaled $766. Our amazing recycling partner, RecycleLink, donated an additional $234 in funding and prizes for 1st and 2nd place! O Street Barnes & Noble rounded everyone’s gift cards up to the next $5 increment and covered the 3rd place prize.
All together, the Cans4Books drive generated $1,060 for school libraries. We are so grateful for our community partners that make this program possible every year! We are excited for more books to be on school library bookshelves thanks to school communities recycling over 40,000 cans!

LPS Celebrates 25 years of the Cans4Books Drive
The Cans4Books Recycling Drive began in 2001 as a way for families and businesses to have the opportunity to raise school library funds by recycling aluminum cans and over the 25 years that the drive has been active, community members, families, and 59 LPS schools have donated over 99,000 pounds of aluminum and earned over $50,000 for school libraries!
Cans4Books has had a really positive impact on LPS libraries by helping expand access to books and resources for students while also promoting literacy and community involvement.
Christine Haeffner, Director of Library Media Services
Cans4Books has provided the opportunity for students, staff, and families all across LPS to come together for a sustainable cause that increases educational opportunities while improving the environment."
Brittney Wees, Sustainability Coordinator
In the lifetime of the program.
We are so grateful to our sponsors, community members, and families for 25 years of turning cans into books, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this incredible drive!
