My name is Charley Bittle and I am the Science Department Chair at Southwest High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.
I will be visiting Ileret, a village in Northern Kenya. It is located on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana, north of Sibiloi National Park and near the Ethiopian border. It is an important archaeological site as numerous hominin fossils have been found near Ileret, including Homo erectus footprints dating back to about 1.5 million years ago.
I will be working with the Koobi Fora Field School, a project of George Washington University, the National Museums of Kenya and the National Science Foundation to help understand how climate change has impacted life in the Turkana Basin for millions of years.
