Linking to Objects in DocuShare
Once you get your documents in DocuShare, they are pretty easy to share with others because every Object in DocuShare has a URL. A URL is an address where the Object can be found.
Because of this, there is no longer ANY REASON to email documents to colleagues. Email was designed to share text messages, and became a way to share documents as attachments over the years. DocuShare is a system that WAS designed to handle the manage your documents.
Direct Links
When sharing a Document, nothing could be easier for your colleagues than sending them a link that they can simply click on.
- Compose a new email message in Thunderbird or Web Mail.
- Switch from email back to to DocuShare and navigate to the object you wish to share.
- Anywhere in DocuShare that you see the Document, the title will be a direct download path to it. Copy this path. To do that with a:
- Two button mouse: Right-click on the link. From the resulting menu, choose “Copy Link Location”.
- One button mouse or trackpad: Either [control]+click or hold your click down for a moment. Either option will result in the same menu appearing. From the resulting menu, choose “Copy Link Location”.
- Return to your email application and Paste.
NOTES:
- The path you paste will show in the body of your email message but it will not appear as though you can click on it. When the message is sent, it will be transformed into a clickable link for your recipient.
- In most cases, the recipient will need to login to view the object or download the document.
- When sharing a link, be aware of the object’s Access Permissions. Just because YOU have the permission to see an object does not mean everyone else does. Remember, some Objects are private.
