Google Forms

Google Forms is a tool for gathering informal data and analyze the data instantly. Like all tools found in the Google Workspace, it allows for easy sharing between staff and students, and saves all work within Google Drive by default, reducing the amount of instructional time used on document management tasks.

Assessment Tool Selection

It is not uncommon for teachers to reach out to Computing Services reporting Google Forms issues such as lost data, or students being unable to successfully submit responses. These reports increase in both frequency and weight around the end of term or semester, and are often associated with assessments that are summative in nature. Unfortunately, there is no consistent solution for this “known issue” with Google Forms, and no way for Computing Services to assist teachers in recovering lost data.

We would like to remind teachers that Synergy Assessments is the official tool for digital summative assessments in LPS.

Because of our contractual relationship with Edupoint Synergy, availability of administrative interfaces and the way in which it records data, Synergy Assessment is the online assessment tool we have most reliability with and can support if teachers encounter issues.

Non-Student Use

While possible to collect data from outside users, the intended use of LPS Google Docs is internal – with other LPS users. If you have the need to collect data from NON-LPS users, please work with our ESU Evaluation and Assessment team to coordinate this.

Support Resources

From time to time, LPS Computing Services offers one-hour workshops on “Exploring Google Forms.” Look for these sessions during summer conferences, or ask an Administrator to contact Kristi Peters to request the session in your own building!
