ITR000 – IT Rule Process
IT Rules
IT Rules, individually, provide guidelines, expectations and behavioral norms when using Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) information technology resources and, in aggregate, provide a framework for the governance of data, computing devices, information systems and the district network (LPSnet). The establishment and maintenance of these rules is authorized by LPS Board Regulation 3550.2. Modifications or additions to IT Rules are drafted and proposed by the Information Security Office. Drafts are then proposed to the Technology Application Governance and Security Committee for ratification. The resulting proposal is then published to LPS staff for a 30 day comment period. After this comment period, the proposal becomes an IT Rule and will be published on the LPS website.
Reporting Rule Violations and Security Issues
Violations of IT Rules or information security concerns or known information security issues should be reported via a Service Desk request or email to iso@lps.org. Anonymous reports are also available by using the “Contact Questions/Comments” button on the LPS website, and choosing Technology Services.
What does this mean to me?
These Information technology rules are helpful. They let us know what is and is not safe behavior as we work in a shared technology environment that contains a great deal of sensitive information protected by Federal law.
If you become aware of a use of technology that might put other LPS students or staff (or their data) in jeopardy, please share that information with our Information Security Officer. This might include situations like:
- Staff who ask students to use ITTs that are not approved
- Passwords that are shared or known by others
- Sensitive data that is viewable by students
- Anyone who is using technology to harass, bully or threaten others
