Focus Program Options

In addition to comprehensive high school options, LPS is proud to offer students many pathways to pursue their passions. In addition to enrollment in one of our eight high schools, some students choose to participate in one of the specialty programs. Some of these focus programs are available for 9th graders and others are offered for upperclassmen only.

Please note: While some of our Focus Programs provide transportation for students, decisions concerning transportation for the 2026–2027 school year have not yet been finalized.

Your Assigned High School and Choice Form Process

Your student is initially assigned to the high school identified in your home attendance area based on your address in our system as of October 31. You can find this information by using our Home School Lookup tool.

At LPS, incoming 9th grade students have the option to choose which high school they want to attend, even if it is not the identified “home” high school. Students who choose a different high school than the one assigned, will need to submit the “High School Choice Form” by the January 5 deadline. Students who submit the High School Choice form after the January 5 deadline may not be allowed to attend the high school of their choice. We recommend filling out the form as soon as possible.

If you move (or plan to move) to a different address after October 31, you will need to update your address AND complete the High School Choice form to ensure your child can attend the high school you intend.

High School Course Requests

In late January and early February, high school counselors will visit your child’s school and help each student request courses for 9th grade. This is an exciting time when students can begin exploring their interests and setting the foundation for their high school career. We encourage you to discuss these options with your child and consider how they align with their future goals. More information about dates for making course requests will be communicated by each middle school next semester.

We know that any new transition brings a mix of emotions for both you and your child. Please know that we are here to support you every step of the way. High school is a time of growth, exploration, and discovery, and we are excited to see all that your child will accomplish!
