Impact of Pass/Fail Grades
Switching to a pass/fail grading system will have no impact on Class of 2020 admission, scholarship, or financial aid. (This is assuming that the students are earning pass grades.)
For the Class of 2021 and beyond, we will not penalize the students for something that is out of their control. We are Creighton; we will do what is in the best interest of the students. Our academic deans have approved this approach. We will make sure that the semester(s) of pass/fail are still solid, meaning the student is passing and not failing. We will use that in collaboration with the semesters that we have letter grades for to make a holistic admissions decision. Even in required courses, the passing grade will be sufficient for admission.
August Move-In
We’re still planning for move-in and the start of Welcome Week to take place on August 15. We recognize that there is some uncertainty; no one is able to predict what the future holds. Know that we are constantly monitoring the situation, factoring in regulations and recommendations from health and government officials, and will be in communication with you and your students should anything change.
Deposit Deadline and Amount
As we announced about a month ago, we extended our deposit deadline to June 1. We have also recently lowered the deposit amount to $400 ($300 is paying tuition early and $100 goes toward a housing deposit), in an attempt to make the decision to come to Creighton even a little bit easier.
Summer Preview
Summer Preview is our optional summer orientation program that is offered to all incoming students. This year, Summer Preview will be offered virtually on the following dates:
June 8-9 / June 11-12 / June 15-16 / June 18-19
Usually, about 60% of each incoming class attends Summer Preview. However, since it’s now a virtual experience and distance is no longer a factor, we’re hoping to have every incoming Bluejay attend! Class registration will take place during Virtual Summer Preview. If a student isn’t able to attend, they will register for classes virtually at another time. Attending Virtual Summer Preview does not give students a priority when registering for classes.
Registration for Virtual Summer Preview will open on May 1. Students must submit their deposit before registering.
New On-Campus Events
We have added two on-campus visit experiences in July so students are able to come see campus before move-in. These Bluejay Experience Days will be on July 16-17 and July 20-21. The events will provide opportunities to explore campus, meet new friends, and get to know Omaha. Students receive more information about these in the coming weeks.
We’ve asked students who are deposited at Creighton to give us feedback on what they would want from these events. Our constant goal is to best serve students, and that usually requires listening more than talking. So, for the time being, we are listening, and will shape the events based on what students tell us is most valuable to them.
