Rotary Youth Leadership Award Nominations

Rotary District 5650 is currently seeking and accepting nominations for Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).  The district coordinates RYLA camp (April 7-9, 2017), an intensive 3-day training program for High School Juniors that helps participants think critically about important issues and share ideas with talented peers, learn how to coordinate and lead community service projects, discuss the importance of good governance and civil society to the world, and finally, learn to think globally and explore issues that transcend national and cultural boundaries.

For young adults, RYLA enables participants to debate issues of professional responsibility and human relations, improve leadership and communications skills, learn about businesses and institutions, and meet Rotarians while having fun and making friends. In addition, RYLA provides participants the opportunity to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and business professionals. The RYLA experience prepares young people to be leaders in their community, profession, and other facets of everyday life. While there is a nominal fee for participants to attend, sponsoring Rotary clubs pay all the participants’ expenses.

To make the camp a success, students from diverse backgrounds throughout our district are encouraged to participate.  Diversity in this context refers to any student who is interested in local and global issues and whose participation in this program would help expand their current experiences and perspectives.

For more information about the program visit: http://rotarydistrict5650.org/SitePage/ryla or Facebook page: http://tinyurl.com/hsduvmq

There is a new application option for students this year, which is an online application at http://tinyurl.com/jr6mg3a Once the completed application is received, it is passed on to the local Rotary Club, which will review the application to decide if the applicant will be sponsored. Students will be notified of acceptance directly by the Rotary Club.
