What does the horizontal line below the spelling mean on the Code Charts?
The horizontal line below each spelling on the Code Chart is called the Power Bar. The Power Bar indicates how frequently that spelling is used to spell that sound in the English language. The longer the line the more frequently that spelling is used. An example of the different spellings for the /j/ sound are pictured below.
