Head Coach Dan Bax
Head Coach Dan Bax is in his 13th year as a distance coach. He is a Lincoln Southeast graduate where he competed in cross-country, swimming, and track. He has been part of many State Championship and State Runner-Up teams in both Cross-Country and Track both as an athlete and as a coach. Prior to starting the program at Lincoln Northwest High, he was an assistant coach at Fremont, Lincoln Southwest, and Lincoln High. Coach Bax has a running streak of running at least 2 miles per day that is currently around 4 years in length. He currently teaches English at Lincoln High School, but will move to Lincoln Northwest once the school opens in Fall 2022. He is married to Katie and has three children: Raelyn, Norah, and Greyson. Coach Bax is involved with many different activities in his personal time including running a small local honey business and supporting associations related to Down syndrome awareness and support. Assistant Coach John Hower
Assistant Coach John Hower Jr. is in his 9th year as a coach. He is a graduate of Millard West High School where he participated in football, basketball, and track and field all four years. Between track and football he was a part of 4 state championships, two runner-up finishes, and holds the school 4×800 record at MW. He then graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2014 where he competed in track and field all four years and football for two years. He received All-American honors as a member of the 4×400 relay during his career as a Prairie Wolf. Coach Hower also has a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from NWU. Coach Hower has spent his whole teaching/coaching career at North Star. He holds a USTFCCA Track and Field Technical Certification (TFTC) that encompasses all events. Coach Hower serves at the Head Track and Field Coach at Lincoln Northwest. He is married to Anna and has one son: Judah. Contact Coach Hower at jhower@lps.org.
