Seniors, here are the top three things you should be doing right now…
- Continue (or start!) researching colleges. There’s no one right number of colleges to consider, but it’s common to apply to 3-5 institutions — and don’t forget to include your dream college. You definitely won’t be accepted if you never apply! Websites like EducationQuest’s College Profiles and US Dept of Ed’s College Scorecard are great places to get started.
- Start your college applications! The free application period for the NU system continues until November 1st, or visit the websites of your top colleges to see if they have a free application period and use websites like The College Investor to find more opportunities. Do you qualify for free/reduced meals? If so, you may also qualify for a college application fee waiver. Connect with your school counselor for details! You might also consider using the Common App if you’re applying to many colleges and want to simplify the application process. Learn more about the Common App and get started at https://www.commonapp.org/.
- Request your current high school transcript. Many college applications will require you to submit your transcript, or self-report your course history. Start your request by visiting the LNW CC website at https://home.lps.org/lnwcounseling/transcripts/.
The rain couldn’t stop Freshman Family Night!
Thank you to all the students and families who made it out to join us for this event. If you weren’t able to attend, the presentation has been posted on the LNW CC news feed. The school counseling team will also be at parent/teacher conferences on September 10, if you have any questions or wish to meet you child’s counselor. Beginning next week and continuing through September, we’ll be conducting individual meetings with all freshmen during the school day.
Registration for the optional PSAT/NMSQT opens September 4th.
Students who have previously submitted the interest form must bring the required payment for this exam to the bookkeeper during their registration window to confirm a seat for this optional exam. Details will be posted on the LNW CC news feed and in sophomore/junior grade-level Google Classrooms this week.
