LPS Family Update – Wednesday
Lincoln Public Schools families,
We understand that there are many questions around the Lincoln Public Schools response to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). We continue to work with the Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department, Nebraska Department of Education and the City of Lincoln to help us determine next steps.
As of today (3/11/2020) and for the rest of this week, we are canceling all outside groups from using our facilities so we can do additional cleaning and disinfecting to prepare our schools for Monday. The only exception will be those groups that are using our buildings this week to provide childcare and Community Learning Center activities for families and the NSAA State Basketball Tournament. Just to be clear, any childcare being provided during spring break in our schools will continue.
We are trying to communicate as much as possible, but please understand this is a fluid situation with new information coming out hourly. We need the most up-to-date information possible before we make any decisions about next week. Subject to additional information, we are planning on having school next week as scheduled. We know that any decision we make greatly impacts students, staff, families and our community. This is a decision we do not take lightly. On Friday, March 13 we will provide updates concerning this evolving challenge that impacts all of our students, staff and families.
We know that families are trying to plan. We encourage families to make plans now in the event that we do not have school next week or any of the following weeks as this moves through our state and community.
Please continue to visit our website (www.lps.org) for updates and information.
