COVID-19 update for LPS families

Lincoln Public Schools families,

It is the beginning of spring break and we want to provide you with an update as we prepare for a possible outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Lincoln.

At this time we are taking all the essential precautions by continuously meeting with Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department Officials and other community partners to help guide our response as new information becomes available. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the Health Department.

Right now we are planning for everyone to return to school on Monday, March 16. We are also preparing for the possibility of needing remote delivery of instruction if the decision is made to close schools. We will communicate with families by phone and email using our School Messenger system and on our LPS website if schools will close.

At this time, we are asking for families to do the following:

  • If you or your child are sick, stay home. Especially if you or they have a fever over 100 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Continue to follow the CDC recommendations for keeping you and your family healthy from any respiratory illness.
  • If you or your child are traveling over spring break, please check the CDC website for the latest recommendations for travel. Continue to self-monitor for symptoms and fever for 14 days after you return. If you have a fever or any other symptoms, immediately self-isolate by staying home and contact the local Health Department at 402-441-8006.
  • If you have questions about COVID-19 and possible exposure, please contact the local Health Department at 402-441-8006.

We will not succumb to irrational panic, but we are putting together a thoughtful and comprehensive response. It is important not to spread misinformation or rumors and to stay informed with up-to-date and accurate information. This is a fluid situation with new information coming out daily. We will email more information to families throughout the week as we monitor the situation. Please see our webpage for more information and updates about COVID-19.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep all of our students and staff healthy.
