LPS High School 50% Capacity Plan

Following the guidance of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, Lincoln Public Schools will reduce the number of high school students in the buildings by 50 percent until further notice by following a 3/2 rotation schedule.

Students are divided into two groups by last name alphabetically. Generally, students with last names A-K are in Group A (shown in blue). Students with last names L-Z are in Group B (shown in red). While dividing the groups, we made every attempt to make sure students in the same family with different last names were grouped with their family members (siblings). Your group assignment will be emailed to you from your school.

We know the best place for students to learn is in our classrooms. We will continue to evaluate the community conditions with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. To help families with planning, we will try to announce high school schedule changes in the family messages 10 days before any possible change.

3/2 Schedule

Students have been assigned to predetermined groups alternating between in-person instruction at school and synchronous remote instruction from home using Zoom. Synchronous means remote students will be required to Zoom-in to receive instruction from their teacher following their regular class schedule and attendance will be taken.

Group A

Generally, students assigned to group A will go to school on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesdays will alternate between in-person and Zoom instruction. Early release days will now be every Wednesday, NOT Tuesday as previously scheduled. On Thursday, Friday and alternating Wednesdays, students will be required to Zoom in to receive instruction from their teacher following their regular class schedule and attendance will be taken.

Group B

Generally, students assigned to group B will go to school on Thursday and Friday. Wednesdays will alternate between in-person and Zoom instruction. Early release days will now be every Wednesday, NOT Tuesday as previously scheduled. On Monday, Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays, students will be required to Zoom-in to receive instruction from their teacher following their regular class schedule and attendance will be taken.

Group C

Generally, students in Group C need to attend school in-person, every day for instruction. Early release days will now be every Wednesday, NOT Tuesday as previously scheduled. Group C includes students participating full time in the following Special Education programs: Support Center, Life Skills, Yankee Hill, Individual Success Program at East, Deaf or Hard of Hearing Center-Based Program at Lincoln Southeast, and Independence Academy. These students will continue to attend school in-person every day of the week, Monday through Friday on days school is in session. Daily transportation will continue for those students who qualify for this Special Education service.

The Career Academy, Bryan Community, Science Focus Program and Arts and Humanities Focus Program

Students in The Career Academy, Bryan Community, Science, and Arts and Humanities focus programs will attend their home high school on assigned in-person days, and will continue to attend classes in-person daily at the focus programs and TCA. On remote learning days, the student is responsible for transportation to the program site or to the high school to take the bus to the program site.

Requesting Group Change

Parents can request their child be assigned to a different group in order to be with a family member, help with carpooling arrangements, or childcare arrangements (e.g., students caring for siblings). To help us keep our numbers as balanced as possible, requests to change groups for students to be with friends will not be approved. If your student and/or family circumstances change throughout the year, you may contact your school to request a change in groups after the school year starts. Multiple requests may not be able to be granted. More information and a link to the form will be emailed to you from your principal on Friday, July 31.

Extracurricular Athletics and Activities

Students attending school via Zoom on their remote learning days, and students who are full-time remote learners, can come to school for before or after school activities, practices, athletics, clubs, and/or Community Learning Centers.

Meals

In-person Days: Students attending school on in-person days will eat breakfast and lunch at school.

Remote Learning Days: Students can pick up extra meals on the last in-person day of the week for the rest of the week when they are at home for remote learning. The first day this will be available for Group A is Wednesday, August 19. The first day for Group B is Friday, August 14. Meals are available for all students in the cafeteria for 15 minutes after school gets out. The same payment procedures for students who pay for meals and for those who qualify for free and reduced meals will apply when students pick up meals for Remote Learning days. Students can pick up breakfast, lunch or both. The meal distribution will be available as long as LPS high schools are under the 50% Capacity Plan 3/2 schedule.
