Karla Halpine — 2020 Nebraska French Teacher of the Year

Background

The Nebraska International Languages Association named Karla Halpine from Lux Middle School its 2020 Nebraska French Teacher of the Year. The Nebraska International Languages Association is a professional organization dedicated to the support and promotion of the teaching of languages in the state of Nebraska. Anyone who is actively engaged in the teaching of a world language at any level of education in Nebraska is eligible for membership. The organization annually recognizes outstanding Nebraska educators and supporters of world language education at its fall conference.

Explanation

The Nebraska International Languages Association named Karla Halpine from Lux Middle School its 2020 Nebraska French Teacher of the Year.

Lincoln Public Schools Language Curriculum Specialist Kate Damgaard said this about Halpine:

“Karla is a source of positive energy that not only impacts students she serves at Lux but across the district. Karla makes strong connections with students and their families, as well as other World Language teachers here in LPS. If there is a task that needs to be tackled, Karla is the first to step up and completes it with a smile. Over the past few years, Karla also has served on the World Language curriculum committee and continues to support strong learning for both students and teachers. Karla brings energy to the classroom.”

Proposal

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Karla Halpine from Lux Middle School was named the 2020 Nebraska French Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska International Languages Association; and

WHEREAS, Karla Halpine serves as a mentor and professional resource for her colleagues, who benefit greatly from her experience and dedication; and

WHEREAS, Karla Halpine demonstrates an ability to make strong connections with both students and their families; and

WHEREAS, Karla Halpine is a passionate advocate for world language education and the teaching of French.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education does hereby congratulate Karla Halpine for being named the 2020 Nebraska French Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska International Languages Association.
