Mohammed Alnajem: Nebraska Languages Association New Language Teacher of the Year Award

Background

Mohammed Alnajem teaches Arabic classes at Northeast and North Star high schools, and was honored as the 2025 New Language Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Languages Association (NEBLA). The Nebraska Languages Association is a professional organization dedicated to the support and promotion of the teaching of languages in the state of Nebraska. The organization annually recognizes outstanding Nebraska educators and supporters of world language education at its fall conference.

Explanation

Mohammed Alnajem teaches Arabic classes at Northeast and North Star high schools. He began teaching at Lincoln Public Schools in 2022. Alnajem was awarded the 2025 New Language Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Languages Association at their fall conference.

Alnajem helped create the Arabic for Arabic speakers class at Lincoln Public Schools, authoring the textbook that they use each day for their lessons.

NEBLA President Terri Wright said:

“Mohammed’s work in teaching Arabic extends well beyond the classroom. He has worked tirelessly to create all levels of curriculum for Arabic, and has adjusted the curriculum to reach students more at their level. Mohammed maintains great relationships with his students, is very giving of his time and is always willing to listen to students.”

Proposal

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Mohammed Alnajem, Arabic teacher at Northeast and North Star high schools has been named the 2025 New Language Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Languages Association; and

WHEREAS, Mohammed Alnajem has developed a curriculum to meet his students needs and help them excel in language proficiency; and

WHEREAS, Mohammed Alnajem creates engaging lessons and opportunities to become confident in the Arabic language; and

WHEREAS, Mohammed Alnajem is valued, respected and admired among his colleagues, not only at his schools, but also across Lincoln Public Schools and the state of Nebraska;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education
does hereby congratulate Mohammed Alnajem for being named the 2025 New Language Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Languages Association.
