Wendy Rau: National Association of School Nurses (NASN) named to Fellows of the National Academy of School Nursing

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) recently added LPS Director of Health Services Wendy Rau to an elite list of National Academy of School Nursing Fellows. The honor of school nursing fellow is the most prestigious recognition that the NASN bestows on members. The group has inducted only 138 school nursing fellows since 1997.

Explanation

LPS Director of Health Services Wendy Rau was recently added to an elite list of National Academy of School Nursing Fellows by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN). This prestigious honor is a symbol of superior achievement in the school nursing profession and exceptional contributions to NASN and the profession of school nursing.

Wendy began working as a school nurse at Lincoln High in 2005. She became the director of LPS Health Services in 2017. She was named the Nebraska School Nurse Administrator of the Year in 2020.

“Wendy has a full understanding of what it means to be a school nurse, how legislation affects our work, and the leadership style necessary to support and grow a strong team of school nurses. She has helped guide our association through conflicts and changes with a calm, patient and confident demeanor. I admire that Wendy consistently works to improve practices – not just for the sake of efficiency, but to enhance student outcomes.”

Proposal

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Wendy Rau serves as Lincoln Public Schools Health Services Director, and was named a National Academy of School Nursing Fellows by the National Association of School Nurses; and

WHEREAS, Wendy Rau collaborates continuously with staff, families and the community to improve the health and wellness of students; and

WHEREAS, Wendy Rau tirelessly advocates for students through her work on committees and advisory boards both locally and nationally; and

WHEREAS, Wendy Rau has created and implemented a national blueprint for helping both the mental and physical health of students; and

WHEREAS, Wendy Rau continues to be a leader in professional learning and best practices in serving schools through a student-centered lens; and

WHEREAS,Wendy Rau is valued, respected and admired among her colleagues, not only at Lincoln Public Schools, but also across the state of Nebraska and the nation;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education
Does hereby congratulate Wendy Rau for being named a National Academy of School Nursing Fellows by the National Association of School Nurses.
