Jason Krueger: Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Nebraska History Teacher of the Year

Background

Jason Krueger, Park Middle School social studies teacher, was named Nebraska History Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Department of Education through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The New York-based organization presents one full-time K-12 educator from each state with an award yearly. It is one of the most significant awards an American history teacher in the United States can receive.

Explanation

The Nebraska Department of Education selected Park Middle School social studies teacher Jason Krueger to receive the Nebraska History Teacher of the Year award from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Jaci Kellison, Lincoln Public Schools K-12 social studies curriculum specialist said:

“Jason’s high expectations for students, and his belief that each and every student can think critically about important issues in American history, makes him an exemplary teacher. Additionally, his commitment to reflection and growth. Jason is always looking for new material, new professional learning opportunities, and ways in which he can impact not only his students at Park, but teachers and students across the district.”

Park Middle School Principal Charlotte Everts added:

“Jason is passionate about his subject area and bringing it to life for his students. He creates a structured and safe environment for his students to learn. He has built a collaborative classroom community where our students are actively engaged in learning and sharing positive feedback with their peers.”

Proposal

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:  

WHEREAS, Jason Krueger, eighth grade social studies teacher at Park Middle School has been named Nebraska History Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Department of Education through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History; and 

WHEREAS, Jason Krueger successfully facilitates learning and supports student growth through a structured and safe environment; and 

WHEREAS, Jason Krueger sets high expectations for students, and believes that each and every student can think critically about important issues in American history; and

WHEREAS, Jason Krueger is widely admired and respected among his peers both within Lincoln Public Schools, the State of Nebraska and across the United States; 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education

does hereby congratulate Jason Krueger for being named Nebraska History Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Department of Education through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
