Fredstrom Elementary School Physical Education teacher Kenny Cope was named the 2022 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE Nebraska). SHAPE Nebraska is a state affiliate of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. SHAPE’s mission is to promote healthy lifestyles through leadership, professional development and advocacy in the areas of health, physical education, recreation and dance. Every year, the organization recognizes high school, middle school and elementary educators for exemplary leadership and programming.

Explanation

The Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE Nebraska) named Kenny Cope the 2022 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

SHAPE Nebraska said this about Cope when announcing the honor:

“Kenny is a Physical Education teacher with a strong passion for his profession. His goal is to develop physically literate children by increasing their ability to be physically active through skills, knowledge, and developing an appreciation for movement. In doing those things students will increase their physical activity and will want to be more physically active throughout their life.”

Proposal

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Kenny Cope, Fredstrom Elementary School Physical Education teacher has been named the 2022 Teacher Nebraska Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Kenny Cope exudes a love for physical education that translates to a high level of student energy and engagement; and

WHEREAS, Kenny Cope not only emphasizes physical activity but also the social and emotional learning of his students; and

WHEREAS, Kenny Cope develops physically literate children by increasing their ability to be physically active though skills, knowledge, and developing an appreciation for movement;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education does hereby congratulate Kenny Cope for being named the 2022 Nebraska Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators.
