Electric vehicle charging stations are the newest sustainable features at Lincoln Public Schools. Thanks to funding made available by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy<\/a> and Lincoln Electric System<\/a>, seven level-2 Chargepoint charging stations were installed at LPS properties. Each of the six high schools have a station near their main entrance and one is at the LPS Operations building.\u00a0<\/p>

These charging stations are now available to support electric vehicle (EV) use in the Lincoln community. EVs provide economic and environmental benefits<\/a>. For example, EVs decrease harmful greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation. They are also an important way to reduce reliance on oil and fossil fuels.\u00a0<\/p>

There are resources available for those thinking about making the switch to an EV. Lincoln Electric System is offering rebates to residential customers purchasing or leasing a new electric vehicle for the first time. As of September 1st, the LES electric vehicle rebate program<\/a> had $120,000 available, and those funds are quickly being claimed!<\/p>

The LPS EV charging stations are connected to an online dashboard that tracks station use and quantifies environmental impacts like greenhouse gas emissions avoided. Since installation, 26 charging sessions have been tracked and they have spanned across all seven stations. This has avoided 74 kg of greenhouse gas emissions, which is like planting 2 trees and letting them grow for 10 years. Updates will continue to be provided as those numbers increase over time.\u00a0<\/p>
