At Lakeview Elementary, students learned about the importance of conserving resources through an activity with Goldfish crackers.\u00a0 At Seacrest Field Athletic Complex, UNL students developed reminders for visitors to recycle their cardboard pizza boxes in accordance with Lincoln&#8217;s ban on corrugated cardboard in landfills.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/home.lps.org\/recycling\/files\/2018\/12\/20181109_132338.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1371\" to make a lasting impact at Meadowlane Elementary with their project. \u00a0After a presentation on the importance of sustainable practices, each fifth grade classroom was given a compost container of their very own. \u00a0Along with the container came the responsibility to monitor and empty the compost, look for other ways to conserve resources, and be a role model of environmental stewardship for the rest of the school. \u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every project was met with enthusiasm from the LPS students, supplementing their already considerable knowledge about the environment. \u00a0This partnership with UNL is a wonderful way bring novel ideas, perspectives, and dedication that help bolster LPS\u2019s sustainability efforts and education.<\/span><\/p><table style=\"height: 323px;\" width=\"972\"><tbody><tr><td><b>School<\/b><\/td><td><b>Service Project<\/b><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Park Middle<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Informational booth on reducing, reusing, and recycling as well as water and electricity conservation.<\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kooser Elementary<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Energy conservation presentation to 5th grade classes.<\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sheridan Elementary<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Activities centered around the importance of composting and resource conservation. \u00a0Garden clean-up as well. <\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wysong Elementary<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presentation and quiz on recycling and decomposition. <\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meadowlane Elementary<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presentation on sustainability and composting in 5th grade classrooms. <\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seacrest Field<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cardboard recycling awareness and presentation to East High Eco Club on recycling efforts. <\/span><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakeview Elementary<\/span><\/td><td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Activity on the Tragedy of the Commons using Goldfish crackers.
