That one sound might be spelled by one, two, three, or four letters. It is helpful to run their finger under the letters of the word as they do this.<\/li><li>Change the one spelling in the first word of the chain so it now spells the second word of the chain (e.g., change the a to e, so the word is now met).<\/li><li>Say, \u201cIf that word was (mat), what is this new word?\u201d<\/li><li>Help the student sound it out.<\/li><li>Ask, \u201cWhat sound makes the new word different from the old word?\u201d<ol><li>\u201cWhat letter(s) changed?\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cSpell the new word out loud.\u201d<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Repeat steps 3-5 for each word in the chain. <\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-966d12b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"966d12b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to do Chaining for Spelling or Dictation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9b5cd17 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9b5cd17\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol>\n<li>Have the student write the first word of a chain (mat) by breaking the word into it\u2019s sounds and writing the spelling for each one.
