Mr. Hayward became a U.S. senator in 1899 and died the<\/p>\n<p>same year.<\/p>\n<p>Hayward replaced the Z Street School and was built in the same location. (In 1942 the name of Z Street was changed to Charleston.)<\/p>\n<p>In 1968 Hayward became the school district&#8217;s Head Start and Follow-Through School.
