What if you\u2019re wrong? What if the person gets angry? In such situations, it\u2019s natural to feel uncomfortable or afraid. But anyone who talks about suicide or shows other warning signs needs immediate help\u2014the sooner the better.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content clearfix\">\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" valign=\"top\">\n<h1><a title=\"Suicide Prevention Resource Center\" href=\"http:\/\/www.helpguide.org\/mental\/suicide_prevention.htm#signs\">Suicide Warning Signs<\/a><\/h1>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Talking about suicide<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Any talk about suicide, dying, or self-harm, such as \u201cI wish I hadn\u2019t been born,\u201d \u201cIf I see you again\u2026,\u201d and \u201cI\u2019d be better off dead.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Seeking out lethal means<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Seeking access to guns, pills, knives, or other objects that could be used in a suicide attempt.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Preoccupation with death<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Unusual focus on death, dying, or violence. Writing poems or stories about death.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>No hope for the future<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and being trapped (\u201cThere\u2019s no way out\u201d). Belief that things will never get better or change.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Self-loathing, self-hatred<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, shame, and self-hatred. Feeling like a burden (\u201cEveryone would be better off without me\u201d).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Getting affairs in order<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Making out a will. Giving away prized possessions. Making arrangements for family members.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Saying goodbye<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Unusual or unexpected visits or calls to family and friends. Saying goodbye to people as if they won\u2019t be seen again.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Withdrawing from others<\/em><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Withdrawing from friends and family. Increasing social isolation. Desire to be left alone.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"190\"><em>Self-destructive behavio<\/em>r<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"478\">Increased alcohol or drug use, reckless driving, unsafe sex.
