Therefore, permission is not needed.\u00a0 However, if a child is asked to participate in a small group, a parent\/guardian will be notified and permission will be requested.<\/p>\n<h3>Do school counselors tell parents\/guardians what students talk about?<\/h3>\n<p>An important part of the counselor-student relationship is trust. One of the ways counselors build trust with students is through confidentiality (\u201cWhat is said in the counselor\u2019s office, stays in the counselor\u2019s office\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Counselor\u2019s share with students that we will always try to keep information confidential, but there are times when we\u00a0<u><strong>must<\/strong><\/u>\u00a0share the information\u00a0with other adults.<\/p>\n<p>These situations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If someone is hurting the student.<\/li>\n<li>If the student wants to hurt someone else.<\/li>\n<li>If the student wants to hurt themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s also important to note that many times problem solving is collaborative, meaning that the more people we have working together, the better things can be.
