Operations Department honored for tireless work this winter

It was a record-breaking winter in Lincoln, with what seemed like one severe storm after another. Employees from the Operations Department at Lincoln Public Schools often bore the brunt of those storms as they worked tirelessly to keep the sidewalks, parking lots and buildings clear and clean for the important job of educating students.

LPS took a moment on Thursday to say a special thank you to the Operations Department for its work this winter. Roughly 150 employees gathered for a free lunch, donated by Goodcents, at the Operations facility at Randolph Street and Capitol Parkway.

LPS Director of Operations Scott Wieskamp thanked his department, followed by remarks from Superintendent Steve Joel and Connie Duncan, president of the Lincoln Board of Education. Board Vice President Kathy Danek also attended.

Duncan announced at the end of her remarks that this event will now be an annual tradition, thanks to funds left behind by her late father, whose only instructions were, “use it to say thank you to someone.”

Thank You Operations!

This was a long winter and we wouldn’t have made it through without the hard work and dedication of our custodians and maintenance crew. We gathered messages of gratitude from staff and students from around Lincoln to share with our operations staff.

Thank you cards from staff
