{"id":8301,"date":"2018-02-09T07:44:36","date_gmt":"2018-02-09T13:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.lps.org\/ehscounseling\/?page_id=8301"},"modified":"2025-12-17T09:17:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T15:17:47","slug":"nhs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/home.lps.org\/lsbcounseling\/nhs\/","title":{"rendered":"National Honor Society"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Selection for membership in this chapter shall be based upon the four NHS Pillars identified as essential to citizens in a democracy in 1921.<br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scholarship<\/strong><br>Students must first meet this criterion to become candidates for membership.\u00a0<br>Juniors who have a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher through the fall semester of their junior year will receive an invitation via email to apply for NHS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Service<\/strong><br>This involves voluntary contributions made by a student and done without compensation. These community service events must go beyond any required for other clubs\/activities\/classwork for school. This can be evidence of service to either the school, the community or both.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leadership<\/strong><br>Student leaders are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Character<\/strong><br>A student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and maintains a clean disciplinary record.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If selected for membership, you will be expected to fulfill the following membership obligations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participate in a minimum of 6 NHS-sponsored activities. These activities include chapter meetings and will take place outside of the school day (multiple options will be available).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lead and\/or participate in two approved projects in service of our school and\/or neighborhood community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.6 while enrolled in 25 graded credits each semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display good character and exemplify the four pillars of National Honor Society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Advisory Board:<br><\/strong>Danna Moore<br>Dave Bell<br>Riki Schaefer<br>Julie Schlegel Youngs<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Selection for membership in this chapter shall be based upon the four NHS Pillars identified as essential to citizens in a democracy in 1921.
