National Honor Society

Selection for membership in this chapter shall be based upon the four NHS Pillars identified as essential to citizens in a democracy in 1921.

  • Scholarship
Students must first meet this criterion to become candidates for membership.
Juniors who have a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher through the fall semester of their junior year will receive an invitation via email to apply for NHS.
  • Service
This involves voluntary contributions made by a student and done without compensation. These community service events must go beyond any required for other clubs/activities/classwork for school. This can be evidence of service to either the school, the community or both.
  • Leadership
Student leaders are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
  • Character
A student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and maintains a clean disciplinary record.

If selected for membership, you will be expected to fulfill the following membership obligations:

  • Participate in a minimum of 6 NHS-sponsored activities. These activities include chapter meetings and will take place outside of the school day (multiple options will be available).
  • Lead and/or participate in two approved projects in service of our school and/or neighborhood community.
  • Maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.6 while enrolled in 25 graded credits each semester.
  • Display good character and exemplify the four pillars of National Honor Society.
