\u00a0Kami is a PDF tool that works with Google’s productivity tools (Drive, Docs, Classroom, etc.). It allows for annotation, markup, digital signature, and split and merge of PDFs amongst other features. Teachers can view and annotate on PDFs in Chrome. Students can use Kami to complete worksheets individually or collaboratively on Chromebooks.<\/p>

Launch and Sign in to Kami<\/strong><\/h3>
  1. Kami can be found in the LPS Portal.<\/a><\/li>
  2. Sign in using your LPS Google account credentials (@class.lps.org).<\/li>
  3. Accept the Terms of Service and Security Settings.<\/li>
  4. Idenitfy your role in LPS as a Student<\/strong> or Teacher<\/strong>.<\/li>
  5. Complete the initial sign-in survey.<\/li><\/ol>

    Install the Kami Chrome Extension<\/strong><\/h3>

    Installing the extension will add a handy button beside your address bar in Chrome. It will open the Kami app in a new tab when clicked. You can also get notifications, change settings, and view account info using the extension. To\u00a0install the extension, click here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

    Kami Settings<\/strong><\/h3>

    All teachers & students<\/em> should consider making the following changes:<\/p>

    1. Click the Settings option under your account name in the top-right corner of the Kami screen.<\/li>
    2. Check<\/strong> \u201cAutomatically Save My Changes to Google Drive\u201d.<\/li>
    3. Uncheck<\/strong> \u201cAutomatically Load Files in Kami\u201d.<\/li>
    4. Uncheck<\/strong> \u201cSubscribe to Newsletter\u201d.<\/li>
    5. Check<\/strong> “Full Google Drive permissions.”<\/li><\/ol>

      Google Drive Settings<\/strong><\/h3>

      Kami is not the default PDF tool for Google Drive. To ease frustration and guide Drive to the correct tool, all teachers & students<\/em>\u00a0should consider making the following change:<\/p>

      1. In Google Drive, open your Settings<\/strong> by clicking on the gear in the top-right corner.<\/li>
      2. In Settings, Choose \u201cManage Apps<\/strong>\u201d on the left side of the panel.<\/li>
      3. Beside Kami, choose \u201cUse by default<\/strong>.”<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

        Using Kami for Assignments<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

        Kami integrates well with Google Classroom. If you have the above settings in place, you should see a “Kami Assignment” option in Google Classroom. This feature allows you to hand out a PDF to students for them to mark up and submit using Kami. You may also grade the assignment using Kami’s annotation features, all within Google Classroom. To create and grade a Kami assignment in Google Classroom, follow the instructions below.<\/p>

        Create an Assignment<\/h3>
        1. Log in to Google Classroom from the LPS Portal.<\/li>
        2. Select the class for which you would like to create an assignment.<\/li>
        3. Click the “Classwork<\/strong>” tab.<\/li>
        4. Click the “Create”<\/strong> button, and then select “Kami assignment”<\/strong>.<\/li>
        5. Create a name for the assignment, assign a date, designate a point value, and if you wish, include a description.<\/li>
        6. In the bottom-left corner, click either the Google Drive icon or the paper clip icon to select the file.<\/li>
        7. Make sure that the option to “Make a copy for each student”<\/strong> is selected from the drop down menu.<\/li>
        8. Click “Assign”<\/strong> when all necessary fields are complete.<\/li><\/ol>

          Grading a Kami Assignment<\/h3>
          1. When ready to grade the assignment, click “View Assignment”<\/strong>.<\/li>
          2. Select a student whose assignment you would like to grade.<\/li>
          3. In the grading window, check the box beside “Grade in Kami”<\/strong>.<\/li>
          4. The Kami interface will appear will the Google Classroom grading window. Use the annotation features to provide any necessary feedback.<\/li>
          5. When finished grading, click Return,<\/strong> or simply continue to the next student’s submission.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
