Lincoln Public Schools families,

Below is your LPS update for the week of May 4, 2020. Please continue to check your email and our website regularly.

Join the #TestNebraskaChallenge

TestNebraska is a new initiative to dramatically increase the rate of COVID-19 testing. Every Nebraskan is being asked to go to TestNebraska.com and take a quick, five-minute assessment. This will help figure out where in the state testing needs to occur, and what your risk level is. Get started with three simple steps:

  1. Answer a few questions to determine your current risk.
  2. They can’t test everyone, but they will prioritize testing for those who currently have symptoms, have interacted with someone who has already tested positive, or have recently visited places where COVID-19 is more widespread.
  3. If you do test positive, they will ask you to answer some questions to help isolate the infection rate.

Take the assessment now: TestNebraska.com.

Information for Special Education

New Special Education learning activities will be on the Remote Learning Site starting Monday, May 4. Please check with your child’s case manager regarding which activities are most appropriate for your child.

TeamMates Continue to Connect

Does your child have a TeamMate mentor? They can continue safely connecting with their mentor electronically during the Pandemic Closure by using the TeamMates Email Exchange. TeamMates staff serve as email exchange helpers, relaying messages between TeamMates and their mentors. The program enables matches to continue developing their relationships remotely while following TeamMates safety guidelines. To date, 697 mentors and 262 mentees have reached out through the email exchange!

If you have a TeamMate in your house, have them check their email or contact their counselor. Visit our website for more information about the program.

Kindergarten Registration & Assessment

Do you have or know a child that will be five before July 31 and ready to start kindergarten? It’s time to register! Because of current health directives, we are only taking online registrations at this time. Please visit our website to start the registration process. You will need your child’s birth certificate to get started. If you have questions or can’t fill out the online application, please call your school.

Will your child turn five years of age between August 1 and October 15? They are eligible to participate in an assessment July 7-9 to determine possible early entrance into kindergarten. Visit our webpage for more information.

Summer High School Course Registration

Just a reminder starting May 4 seniors and juniors can register for summer school classes. All other students can register beginning May 11.

All summer school classes will be done remotely and synchronously from June 3 through July 16. This means that students who register for a summer school course will be required to log-on to their Chromebook and meet with their teacher electronically during their scheduled class time, Monday through Friday. Classes will be from 8-9:50 a.m. and 9:55-11:45 a.m.

Students interested in registering for summer school classes need to do the following:

  • Go to the summer school website as soon as possible and fill out a form to indicate their interest in registering for summer school classes.
  • Staff will then contact the student to give them instructions on how and when to register for available classes based on their grade level.
  • More information can be found on the summer school website: https://home.lps.org/summerschool/

If you have any questions about this process, please contact your school counselor.
