108S1 LR6CA LPS Testimony

Lincoln Public Schools opposes LR6CA specifically on the grounds that this proposed Constitutional amendment, among other provisions, seeks to raise required voter approval thresholds for the passage of bond issues. For real property acquisition it would impose a two-thirds approval level and for bonded indebtedness incurred for new school construction and the furnishing of school buildings it would require a 55% supermajority voter approval.

The longstanding practice of voter approval by simple majority is fundamentally democratic in principle and we believe that this threshold should be maintained. For this reason, Lincoln Public Schools opposes LR6CA.
