Chairman Murman and members of the Education Committee:

LB1034 ensures that no school employee, contractor, or agent facilitates immigration enforcement activities on school grounds absent a valid judicial warrant.

The Lincoln Public Schools has long established protocols and procedures stating that Law Enforcement officers should not be permitted to remove a student from school while the student is properly in attendance, without the permission of the student’s parent or guardian, except when legally authorized to do so.

This bill supports the policy and regulation of LPS (5502, 5502.1) in regards to our practice and the attempt to not cause undue disruption and trauma to students at the school, during the school day.

Lincoln Public Schools supports Senator Dungan’s LB 1034 and its intent to keep law enforcement actions out of schools whenever possible.

Sincerely,

Brad Jacobsen
Associate Superintendent of Civic Engagement
Lincoln Public Schools
