The Award of Merit is presented by the NIAAA to an individual in recognition of outstanding leadership and personal commitment to the values of interscholastic athletics. The NIAAA Board of Directors selects this recipient and the award is given only in those years when the board deems there is a candidate worthy of this honor. It is the NIAAA&#8217;s highest individual award. The NIAAA has been honoring athletic administrators with this award since 1978. Armstrong is the first from Nebraska to be honored.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42822ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"42822ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Explanation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9a27eae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9a27eae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>LPS Director of Athletics and Activities Kathi Wieskamp said the following about Armstrong:<\/p><blockquote><p>\u201cCongratulations to Mark Armstrong! Mark does a tremendous job leading the Lincoln Southwest athletic program and LPS is very fortunate to have him on our team. Mark&#8217;s commitment to the profession and willingness to serve at both the local and national level have identified him as an outstanding leader in the field of athletic administration. His incredible work ethic, integrity and passion for athletics is easy to recognize and make him a perfect selection for this award.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4cef202 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4cef202\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Proposal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46e7d42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46e7d42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p><p>WHEREAS, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association has honored Southwest High School Athletic Director Mark Armstrong with its Award of Merit; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mark Armstrong strives to always provide the necessary support and resources to his school\u2019s staff and student-athletes; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mark Armstrong has proven to be a leader with outstanding ethics and integrity; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mark Armstrong understands the importance of athletics as part of a student\u2019s well-rounded educational experience; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mark Armstrong is clearly admired and respected among his peers on the local, state and national levels;<\/p><p>NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education<\/p><p>does hereby congratulate Southwest High School Athletic Director Mark Armstrong for receiving the Award of Merit from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) has honored Lincoln Southwest High School Athletic Director Mark Armstrong with its Award of Merit.
