This organization\u2019s mission is to promote healthy lifestyles through leadership, professional development and advocacy in the areas of health, physical education, recreation and dance. It\u2019s a state affiliate of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Every year, the organization recognizes educators for their exemplary leadership and programming in the categories of health and high school, middle school, elementary and adapted physical education.<\/p>\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>The Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators named Lis Brenden<br \/>\nthe 2020 Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>The organization said this about Brenden when announcing the honor:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cLis Brenden is a true advocate for students with special needs in the classroom, school and community. Two years ago she volunteered and initiated piloting the first unified physical education class in Lincoln Public Schools. She works closely with the Special Education Department to co-teach this amazing opportunity for students of all abilities. She is always looking at innovative ways to modify equipment to fit her students\u2019 needs so all can fully participate in class. She shares her passion by leading training to assist other teachers who are interested in incorporating a unified P.E. program in their school.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Proposal<\/h2>\n<p>That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Lis Brenden has been named the 2020 Nebraska Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Lis Brenden is an advocate for students with special needs in the classroom, school and community; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Lis Brenden shows a commitment to teaching by exposing her students to physical activity in a variety of class settings; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Lis Brenden teaches her students more than how to be safely active; she also teaches them social and life skills; and<\/p>\n<p>NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education<br \/>\ndoes hereby congratulate Lis Brenden for being named the 2020 Nebraska Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background Lis Brenden from Lincoln Southwest High School was named the 2020 Nebraska Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Society of Health and Physical Educators.
