The Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics named Lux Middle School math teacher Maggie Scott as 2025 Rookie Teacher of the Year. Established in 2000, this award recognizes teachers in their first three years of teaching who demonstrate outstanding work in the area of mathematics.<\/p>

Maggie has taught for two years, and continues to find new and innovative ways to engage students in their math lessons.<\/p>

Lux Principal Duane Dohmen wrote:<\/p>

\u201cI think the biggest factor is Maggie\u2019s passion. She was made to teach. As a result, she is able to advocate, relate and care for all students. It is important for all students to have equal access and for all students to learn. She has built a community of learners, and she has created a positive culture of learning. This is what teaching and learning is supposed to look like.\u201d<\/p>

LPS math coordinator Becky Evans wrote:<\/p>

\u201cMaggie\u2019s thoughtfulness and self-reflection translate into the classroom, with each lesson intentionally planned to capture the intrigue of her students while maintaining high academic expectations. That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p>

WHEREAS, Maggie Scott, Lux Middle School math teacher has been named 2025 Rookie Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Maggie Scott successfully facilitates learning and supports student growth through active engagement and building a culture of learning; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Maggie Scott has devoted her time and efforts in improving her craft of teaching to better engage her students and make a greater impact on students\u2019 math growth and critical thinking; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Maggie Scott is widely admired and respected among her peers both within Lincoln Public Schools and the State of Nebraska;<\/p>

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education
