The award recognizes school counselors who demonstrate excellence in their profession.<\/p><p>In Mattie\u2019s role, she teaches citizenship and prosocial lessons in every classroom at Humann, grades kindergarten through fifth grade. These activities and lessons focus on being safe, respectful, and kind. Mattie also supports all students in helping them develop social-emotional skills like how to build relationships and problem-solving.<\/p><p>Prior to becoming a school counselor, Mattie was an elementary school teacher.<\/p><p>When speaking about her work, Mattie said:<\/p><p>\u201cI love teaching reading, writing and math, but I love getting to help contribute to developing people and teaching people how to be good people. We have a part in helping little people become the best version of themselves, and that is the coolest thing ever.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4cef202 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4cef202\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Proposal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46e7d42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46e7d42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mattie Trejo-Amen, counselor at Humann Elementary School has been named 2025 Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the Nebraska School Counselor Association; and&nbsp;<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mattie Trejo-Amen successfully cultivates and nurtures student wellbeing and outcomes by teaching important social-emotional learning skills; and&nbsp;<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mattie Trejo-Amen works collaboratively with the educators at Humann to address student needs ensuring their success; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Mattie Trejo-Amen is widely admired and respected among her peers both within Lincoln Public Schools and the State of Nebraska;&nbsp;<\/p><p>NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education does hereby congratulate Mattie Trejo-Amen for being named the Nebraska Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the Nebraska School Counselor Association.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background Mattie Trejo-Amen has been an elementary counselor at Lincoln Public Schools for six years.
