Chris has been teaching for Lincoln Public Schools for nine years, and continues to be an active member of the Geographic Educators of Nebraska in promoting geographic education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42822ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"42822ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Explanation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9a27eae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9a27eae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Geographic Educators of Nebraska selected Lincoln High School social studies teacher Chris Turley to receive the District 1 Gildersleeve-Stoddard-Stone Award.<\/p><p>The nomination letter states:<\/p><p>\u201cMr. Turley is an excellent teacher. He cares deeply about all his students and works to improve his craft by attending professional development.<\/p><p>Mr. Turley took time out of his busy summer to attend the GEON Geography of the City 2023 summer workshop. The workshop required him to master geography content, participate in field inquiries, and create a unique ArcGIS story map. His story map highlighted the unique experiences of immigrant communities in Lincoln, Nebraska. Many of the children from these communities attend his high school.<\/p><p>GEON is a grass-roots organization comprised of educators committed to improving geographic education in Nebraska. The organization is grateful and improved due to Mr. Turley\u2019s commitment to sharing his perspective to guide GEON into the future.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4cef202 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4cef202\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Proposal<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46e7d42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"46e7d42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Chris Turley, social studies teacher at Lincoln High School has been selected by the Geographic Educators of Nebraska to receive the District 1 Gildersleeve-Stoddard-Stone Award; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Chris Turley works to promote the importance of geographic education throughout Lincoln Public Schools and the state of Nebraska; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Chris Turley cares deeply about all his students and works to improve his craft by regularly attending professional development; and<\/p><p>WHEREAS, Chris Turley is widely admired and respected among his peers both within Lincoln Public Schools and the State of Nebraska;<\/p><p>NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education does hereby congratulate Chris Turley for being selected by the Geographic Educators of Nebraska to receive the District 1 Gildersleeve-Stoddard-Stone Award.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background Chris Turley, Lincoln High School social studies teacher, received the District 1 Gildersleeve-Stoddard-Stone Award from the Geographic Educators of Nebraska.
