Taylee Nelson, fourth grade teacher at Zeman Elementary School, has been named 2023 Rookie Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics. This award was established in 2000 to honor rookie mathematics teachers who demonstrate outstanding teaching in their beginning years of teaching.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics named Zeman Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Taylee Nelson 2023 Rookie Teacher of the Year. Established in 2000, this award recognizes teachers in their first three years of teaching who demonstrate outstanding work in the area of mathematics.<\/p>

Taylee has taught for three years, and recently published an article in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics journal Mathematics Teacher: Learning & Teaching PK-12 titled \u201cVulnerability in Our Collective Work as Educators\u201d.<\/p>

Zeman Principal Rik Devney wrote in the nomination letter:<\/p>

\u201cTaylee’s level of planning has served as a strong foundation for the academic progress students are making. She delivers instruction with a good level of clarity and precision that promotes active engagement in all areas.<\/p>

Taylee understands the importance of building a culture for learning by having high expectations for scholars in a safe environment where students can take risks as learners. Her interactions with students set the tone for the ‘norms’ of how student interactions are to occur. Her classroom is a true community of learners.\u201d<\/p>

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p>\n

WHEREAS, Taylee Nelson, fourth grade teacher at Zeman Elementary School has been named 2023 Rookie Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics; and <\/p>

WHEREAS, Tayle Nelson successfully facilitates learning and supports student growth through active engagement and building a culture of learning; and <\/p>

WHEREAS, Taylee Nelson has devoted her time and efforts in improving her craft of teaching to better engage her students and make a greater impact on students\u2019 math growth and critical thinking; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Taylee Nelson is widely admired and respected among her peers both within Lincoln Public Schools and the State of Nebraska; <\/p>

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education does hereby congratulate Taylee Nelson for being selected as the 2023 Rookie Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics.<\/p>
