In June 2023, Lincoln High School nurse Dawn Sugden received the 2023 Excellence in School Nursing – Nebraska School Nurse of the Year Award from the Nebraska School Nurses Association. The purpose of the award is to recognize the contributions of a school nurse who demonstrates knowledge, skills, management, continuing education, community involvement and research.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dawn Sugden serves as the Lincoln High School nurse and received the 2023 Excellence in School Nursing – Nebraska School Nurse of the Year Award from the Nebraska School Nurses Association. Dawn started in early childhood at LPS in 2012 before transitioning into her current role in 2016. Dawn is a passionate advocate for her students and goes above and beyond to help provide access to resources. She also worked on systems level changes to improve her care and health services processes.<\/p>

LPS Health Services Director Wendy Rau wrote:<\/p>

\u201cDawn spearheaded a digital health office pass during COVID. This pass has had a significant impact increasing student independence, promoting healthy choices and increasing instructional time. She has worked diligently with some difficult situations and adjusted her plans to include relationship building, wellness teaching and intensive partnering with families.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p>

WHEREAS, Dawn Sugden, Lincoln High School nurse received the 2023 Excellence in School Nursing – Nebraska School Nurse of the Year Award from the Nebraska School Nurses Association; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Dawn Sugden displays thoughtful and positive leadership to improve the services and access to health supports for Lincoln High students; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Dawn Sugden has developed and implemented practices to increase student independence, promote health choices and increase instructional time; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Dawn Sugden uses her expertise to create instructional videos for her students to prevent illnesses and educate about healthy choices; and<\/p>

WHEREAS, Dawn Sugden is valued, respected and admired among her colleagues, not only at Lincoln Public Schools, but also across the state of Nebraska;<\/p>
