The Nebraska International Languages Association is a professional organization dedicated to the support and promotion of the teaching of languages in the state of Nebraska. Anyone who is actively engaged in the teaching of a world language at any level of education in Nebraska is eligible for membership. The organization annually\u00a0recognizes outstanding Nebraska educators and supporters of world language education at its fall conference.<\/p>\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>The Nebraska International Languages Association named Spanish teacher Melissa Hernandez from Lincoln Northeast High School the 2018 Outstanding World Language Teacher.<\/p>\n<p>Piper Porras, a Spanish teacher for Bellevue Public Schools, said this about Hernandez in her nomination letter for the award:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer work ethic is seen in all she does both within and outside of the school building. She has been a colleague with whom I can share lesson ideas and know I\u2019ll end up with an excellent plan once she puts in her thoughts\u2026She is tirelessly working to create a classroom that not only prepares students for applying Spanish language knowledge in real-life settings, but also developing global citizens who are compassionate, thoughtful of others, and confident in becoming shining examples of who they truly are.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Proposal<\/h2>\n<p>That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution:<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Spanish teacher Melissa Hernandez from Lincoln Northeast High School has been named the 2018 Outstanding World Language Teacher by the Nebraska International Languages Association; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Melissa Hernandez demonstrates a dedication to her students that contributes to their growth not only as students but as global citizens; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Melissa Hernandez is widely respected by her teaching peers across the state and is routinely sought out as a professional resource and inspiration; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Melissa Hernandez exposes her students to experiences beyond the classroom that enrich their learning and understanding of the world around them.<\/p>\n<p>NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education<\/p>\n<p>does hereby congratulate Melissa Hernandez for being named 2018 Outstanding World Language Teacher by the Nebraska International Languages Association.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background The Nebraska International Languages Association named Spanish teacher Melissa Hernandez from Lincoln Northeast High School the 2018 Outstanding World Language Teacher.
