Kinney received her award June 25 at the AAFCS national conference in Atlanta. The award recognizes exemplary teachers who use cutting-edge methods, techniques and activities to provide stimulus and visibility to family and consumer sciences in elementary and secondary education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The American Association of Family &amp; Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) has named Camelle Kinney as a Teacher of the Year Merit Finalist. Kinney has been a family and consumer sciences teacher at Lincoln North Star High School for 15 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AAFCS cited her work with an advanced culinary course when announcing her honor:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutting-edge technology is used throughout Kinney\u2019s culinary class\u2026The impact of Kinney\u2019s class goes beyond students learning how to run a restaurant. Students form connections with businesses and organizations in the community, discover related career paths and are better prepared to work in the real world<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lincoln Public Schools Curriculum Specialist for Career and Technical Education Cynthia Baum said Kinney is not only a teacher but a respected leader in FCS education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cShe brings out the best in people that maximizes learning situations and sustains the energy to learn more.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Proposal<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Camelle Kinney has been named a Teacher of the Year Merit Finalist by the American Association of Family &amp; Consumer Sciences; and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Camelle Kinney utilizes cutting-edge technology and online materials to allow students to learn and relearn at their own pace; and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Camelle Kinney teaches her students to apply their classroom learning by having them run their own restaurant; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Camelle Kinney helps her students form connections with local businesses and community organizations and discover career paths related to family and consumer sciences; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Camelle Kinney is a nationally respected leader in the teaching of family and consumer sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does hereby congratulate Camelle Kinney for being named a Teacher of the Year Merit Finalist by the American Association of Family &amp; Consumer Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background Camelle Kinney, a family and consumer sciences teacher at Lincoln North Star High School, was recently honored by the American Association of Family &amp; Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) as a Teacher of the Year Merit Finalist \u2013 one of only two in the country.
