The NMEA <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">represents all phases of music education in Nebraska schools, colleges and universities, with more than 1,200 members from across the state. The Outstanding Young Music Educator award recognizes excellence in music education by someone who has taught for between three and seven years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nebraska Music Education Association named Megan O\u2019Brien the 2018 Outstanding Young Music Educator. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lance Nielsen, supervisor of music for Lincoln Public Schools, said the following about O\u2019Brien:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen you walk in to her classroom, you will observe excellence in teaching. She designs lessons with clear learning objectives that engage all students, regardless of their ability level. You also see active music-making by all students with support systems for them to succeed. You can\u2019t help but leave her classroom smiling \u2013 she brings happiness to the classroom and the students love her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of her students said this about O\u2019Brien:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMiss O\u2019Brien makes learning fun and gives chances for all grades to have concerts. After each one she congratulates us for the hard effort we put in. She\u2019s never afraid to try new things and is always open to new ideas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Proposal<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That the Lincoln Board of Education adopt the following resolution: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Megan O\u2019Brien has been named the 2018 Outstanding Young Music Educator by the Nebraska Music Education Association; and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Megan O\u2019Brien demonstrates a passion for music education and a deep commitment to her students; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Megan O\u2019Brien inspires a love for music among her students, no matter their grade level or ability; and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHEREAS, Megan O\u2019Brien is a lifelong learner who continuously seeks professional development to improve her own musical skills and her knowledge of music education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lincoln Board of Education<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does hereby congratulate Megan O\u2019Brien for being named 2018 Outstanding Young Music Educator by the Nebraska Music Education Association.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background The Nebraska Music Education Association (NMEA) named Zeman Elementary School teacher Megan O\u2019Brien the 2018 Outstanding Young Music Educator.
