Grades 3 – 5 Flex Sessions

1.75 flex hours required Effective Literacy Instruction Enhanced by Technology Session Level 101 or Level Advanced.   

Attending either of the two sessions listed below will meet the requirement.

  1. Effective Literacy Instruction Enhanced by Technology: Level – 101

This session introduces the Sample Weekly Lesson Guide for Grades 3-5. Session content includes purposes and procedures for effective use of technology during reading and writing instruction. We will focus on tools and applications in Wonders and Google Drive.

This session introduces the Sample Weekly Lesson Guide for Grades 3-5. The session will demonstrate how effective reading and writing instruction are enhanced through the use of technology. Working knowledge of Wonders Tools, Google Drive, and Google Classroom are strongly recommended.

Instruction That Supports Text Dependent Analysis

Instruction that supports Text Dependent Analysis is a professional development opportunity where teachers collaboratively explore strategies to help students understand Text Dependent Analysis.  Participants examine the components of an effective TDA and explore instructional strategies that will enhance instruction in this area.  Participants will also examine new NDE expectations and rubrics to further increase instructional awareness.

Grades 3-5:  Reaching Struggling Readers

The focus of this class will be to think and learn more about how to provide support for struggling readers in grades 3-6. Engagement strategies will be embedded throughout the session.

Close Reading to Deepen Comprehension

The focus of this flex session is to learn how to deepen students’ comprehension through the use of Close Reading.  The emphasis will be on how to intentionally plan in engagement strategies and text dependent questions that help students efficiently return to the text, reread for specific purposes, and “do the thinking”.  Techniques to ensure group and individual accountability will be included.

Sonday System

At this session participants will learn how to do the Sonday System Intervention. Participants must bring a Sonday System Intervention kit with them.

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)

At this session participants will learn how to do the Leveled Literacy Intervention by Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell.
