Nutrition Services

Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program

Lincoln Public Schools is part of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. This is in addition to our lunch and breakfast programs to help encourage the intake of fruits and vegetables. Schools who apply have to meet specific criteria and are selected by the State of Nebraska Nutrition Services Department.

The goals for the FFVP are:
• Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience
• Increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption
• Make a difference in children's diets to impact their present and future health

The program starts in late August and ends in early to mid May. Schools offer a fruit and/or vegetable two times a week in the classroom. Nutrition education and promotional materials are posted in each participating school.
