In this unit, students extend their understanding of addition and subtraction with whole numbers to add and subtract decimals. They observe that the process of composing and decomposing a base-ten unit is the same for decimals as for whole numbers and the same methods of recording operations can be used with decimals. Students are also introduced to percents.
