The Department of Indian Education is located within the Department of Federal Programs at the Lincoln Public Schools District Office. Indian Education Advocates support academic achievement for Native American students by facilitating a partnership between existing district personnel, students, families, volunteers, and tribal community members and leaders. Through this partnership, Indian Education Advocates strive to connect Native American students with the resources that will help them to reach their academic goals.
Services and Programs available through Indian Education Include:
• One-on-one contact with Indian Education Advocates
• Encouragement and Support for student successes
• Tutors for students struggling academically
• Mentors to help students walk through life’s challenges
• ACT Preparation Courses
• Native American Clubs within the schools
• Transitional Activities for incoming 6th and 9th grade students
• Native American Student Leadership Conferences
• Native Language preservation through Native Language Classes offered at CLC sites
• Student-led service learning experiences
• Cultural education for Native American students
• Cultural education resources and presentations for LPS teachers studying Native American history
• Staff development for teachers working with Native students
• Post-secondary planning workshops / College scholarship location assistance
